Jr Cyclones 3v3 Cross Ice Tournament Rules & Format

1. General

  • All games are run-time and displayed on the score clock. There are no periods or intermissions. Two or three cross-ice games will be played simultaneously.
  • Game Lengths: Preliminary games – 15 minutes run time; Playoff games – 24 minutes run time.
  • Teams will be issued colored pinnies for identification. A matching jersey may be worn if available instead of a pinnie.
  • No coaches are permitted on the ice or benches — Cyclones staff only may supervise.

2. In-Game Rules

  • No off-sides.
  • Teams may score from their own half of the ice.
  • Games begin with a face-off at center ice.
  • After a goal: all players must return to their own half. The team scored upon retrieves the puck and resumes play. Officials may pause play until control is reestablished. Once the puck is 5 feet clear of the net, the opposing team may attack.
  • Cyclones officials may add spare players to a short-handed team to ensure fair play.
  • Teams with substitute players will change on their own, and substitutes must remain seated on the bench.
  • No horseplay in the bench area while waiting for shifts.
  • Minor penalties result in a penalty shot; play continues live immediately after. The penalized player remains on the ice.
  • Major or misconduct penalties result in immediate ejection from the tournament and future event disqualification.
  • Any team accruing more than six penalties in a single game will forfeit the game.
  • If a puck goes out of play, the referee will immediately throw in a new puck.
  • No body contact or high-stick shots (sticks must stay below the waist). No slap shots are permitted.

3. Tournament Format

  • The tournament begins with a round-robin series. Teams are seeded for playoffs based on win-loss record and total points. Following semifinals, there will be a consolation game and a full-ice 24-minute championship game.
  • Tie-breakers for playoff seeding: 1) Head-to-head results, 2) Plus/minus differential, 3) Coin flip.
  • League officials reserve the right to assist on-ice supervisors with rulings or disputes.

Sportsmanship Reminder
